JP Space Crew Letter

Dear JP Space Crew Member:

Welcome to Janet’s Planet where we are traveling at the speed of thought! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Janet and I have my very own planet named, what else? Janet’s Planet and I am on a special mission to share facts with you about our amazing universe!

Have you ever looked up on a starry night and wondered what is going on up there? Sparkling, twinkling lights, moons, planets, comets, meteor showers…there is an amazing, ever-expanding universe up and out there. There is so much to learn, but we are going to discover and explore things one space fact at a time.

I’d like to ask you a question. Did you know that you are part of the universe?
You see, the word universe is a word that astronomers use to describe all matter and energy, including the earth, the galaxies, and the contents of intergalactic space as a whole, even space itself. No one knows exactly how big it is! Astronomers have measured the universe’s age to be between 13 and 15 billion years old.

When a star dies, the explosion that occurs releases protons, neutrons, and all the elements found in our universe. The dust and gases of that former star are scattered through space and are the basic elements of all matter. Over billions of years, all of this dust and gas comes together to form new stars. Every atom, every particle, all of the energy, matter and space that exists…flowers, grass, animals, your dog, your cat, mountains, oceans, your Grandma and even YOU are made from what astronomer Carl Sagan calls “star stuff.”

I absolutely love the thought of that! So when I tell you that “You are a STAR! ” I’m not kidding.
Hop in your rocket and let’s take a wild ride, travel at the speed of thought, and learn some fascinating things about our universe! Come on Let’s GO! You are the shining stars of the future of space exploration, science and astounding discoveries. I want you to get excited and curious about the stars and planets and what’s really up and out there, because our amazing cosmos is truly amazing!

So hop in your rocket and let your mind revolve around this thought…the universe is always expanding so allow your mind to do the same; come enjoy the view with Janet’s Planet.

Cosmic Peace,
